The PRacademic was inspired through an article in the Journal of Social Marketing that spoke about the gap between theory and practice – and the ways that we can bridge this gap. Spoiler alert, communications plays a major role.

As a practitioner “slash” academic (I just had to insert the Zoolander meme below), when I entered academia to start working on my PhD, I had a focus on ensuring that my research would be translatable to my colleagues in practice.

and not the otherway around.

As I have been on my academic journey, I have been amazed by the amount of research that gives guidance to those working in PR, communications and social marketing. Research that, as a practitioner, I was not aware of or just did not have access to.

To bring the practitioner/academic gap, I am going to use this blog to start to share research that I come across that I find interesting and that gives an insight to communications practice. I will share the posts on my LinkedIn page, and I would encourage everyone to share both my posts as well as the research.
